Fresh, original, a movie worth watching over and over. Underworld is a gothic and beautiful film with great acting and a fairly good script. This is the film that started it all, and perhaps should have ended it all.

I initially saw this movie on TV, and decided I wanted to buy it. Also bought the sequels. I normally don't like scary movies, but this was more like an action, suspense, romeo and juliet love story.

The cinematography, sets, and costumes are really wonderful in this action-packed horror story ( as is true of the sequel, and 'prequel' ). This is one of my favorite vampire flicks of recent years. Retooling the lore of the vampire, and lycanthropy doesn't bother me a bit ( since virtually everyone after Bram Stoker has ). Kate Beckinsale, besides being lovely to look at, carries off her role as a 'death-dealer,' that falls for a doctor ( played adequately by Scott Speedman ) hunted by Lycans, admirably. Bill Nighy is also excellent as the leader of the vampire clan Beckinsale's character belongs to.

Like the story or not there is no denying that this is a beautiful film to look. The overtones and the cinematography make watching the film like looking at gothic art. Kate Beckinsale is great in this movie. If you're into Werewolves and Vampires, you have to check this one out.

This is a great movie. Vampire movies are really hot now. Great quality movie. I recommend it.
